So long my first bass. You're so pretty. Too bad it didn't work out.
Played another gig last week on bass for my friend Jana Pochop at Ruta Maya here in town. Good thing we got together a few hours beforehand to run some tunes - because my “new” T-40 was sounding like ass. Terrible intonation, plucky sound, a downright hot mess. So I ran home and got Jana’s bass (which I’ve been borrowing for the past 6 months - thanks jana!) and used it for the night. But the sad truth of it is this: Even though it’s sooooo pretty and I only just got it, I did get a little burned on this deal and I need to accept it and let it go. And then go buy a damn bass that works.
Meanwhile, anyone want to buy a very pretty T-40 that needs a new neck???
So long Pink Salon. You’ve been a big part of my Austin experience and you will be missed :( (photo from pinkaustin.blogspot.com)
Attention: this is not a mix
Now that we’ve got Flowers a good bit of the way there, we’re on to track 2, a song I co-wrote with my friend Geno (The Gene Pool & Red Leaf School of Music co-founder). We’ve got acoustic guitar down, lead & backing vox, a rhodes line, and dan put down some nice heavy beats and *really* good electric guitar. He has a harmonic in there that’s so far, my favorite note on the record. With some luck geno’s gonna replace my very muddy bassline with some nice low-end this week and maybe even add a solo to the bridge — and with that we’ll have the foundation for track 2 down. I love progress.
Watched this most interesting documentary on octopus off the island of Stromboli this morning with ava mae. You can see it in it’s entirety at http://underdogcinema.com/nature/national-geographic-octopus-volcano/. Did you know octopus can predict volcanic eruptions and earthquakes? I dunno…they may be my new favorite cephalopod. Note the twisting off of the jar lid around the 10 minute mark. And of course there’s the whole ink thing. Amazing.
Played a couple super-fun shows with my friend Jana Pochop last weekend. Here’s Jim & Jana getting started.
also saw Ben Kweller @ Emos this weekend. He hooked us up with wristbands which was sweet. It was soooo hot I didn’t think I’d make it, and some idiot (me) thought it’d be a good idea to wear jeans — but when the music started I was all good. Eating ice, dropping the occasional cube down my shirt and lovin life. Oh, and this was the stamp for the night. Nice.
